When I open my Microstation V8i (Series 10) and then open a DGN file within, it looks different than if I open a DGN file from Explorer. Is this a visual appearance difference with the CONNECT edition?
Opening the program from the shortcut, then selecting the file to open ensures that all of the resources (Project, User, Interface) are selected and loaded. Simply double-clicking a file may not load the resources you want. This will affect a lot of aspects of your drawing file.
It's a similar (but not identical) thing in Connect. If you open the program and select the proper workspace, you will have all of the correct resources loaded.
Now, a file could "look different" between SS10 and CONNECT if they do not have identical resources. If they are looking at different color tables or different text style libraries or line styles or fonts, things could look very different indeed.

One correction about the CONNECT Edition....
In CONNECT, the design files know what WorkSpace and WorkSet they belong to so that when you open a dgn from double clicking on it in Explorer MicroStation will open the file using the WorkSpace and WorkSet saved in the dgn file. This is also called Branding.

Thank you, Rod. I'm still learning about the branding, so I wasn't sure.
Explorer Preview shows DGN contents using DGN Preview handler(Bentley DGN Reader) so it may look different as in Microstation. It has limitations as doesn't show external resources and even internal resources are not always correctly rendered.
I might have worded this wrong. I meant when I click a DGN file in Explorer, the user interface looks different. I think I'm looking at the CONNECT edition. And when I open Microstation, it looks like the V8i edition. It's just the interface and the way it looks. I have set my MS up so that all of my toolboxes on the left. When I click a DGN file, the view is more like tiles all on the top.
