Hi,
Somehow my .dwg files got associated with the wrong program. I right clicked a .dwg file, and choose to always open it with Mstn CE. Then I lost my dwg icons--they became the same as the dgn icons. I tried a icon assigning program, and when I change the dwg icons, the dgn icons change too. When I change the dgn icons, the dwg icons change as well.
How I get the dwg icons to show with the .dwg files and the the dgn icons to show with the .dgn files (two different icons)?
--Thanks,--Robert
This may be what you want - as it is a Windows issue, not MicroStation, in my view.

Hi Mark,
You're half-way there. The problem is that I did change the program associated with dwg files (using similar steps to your link). The problem is that both DWGs and DGNs show as the top icon below. What I want are the DGNs show as the top icon and the DWGs show as the bottom icon. (I have a lot of folders with a lot of files--one DWG and then another with the very same name with the extension of DGN.

Perhaps this article will help? (I'm not endorsing it, merely passing a reference)

Hi Jon,That is one of the two pieces of software that I tried. At the top of it, it says that changing the .dwg may also change the .dgn files as well, which it does.
To get more techie, in the registry, the .dwg and the .dgn extensions are calling up the microstation application. The microstation application has a icon associated with it, which is either one or the other... So when you change it for one, it changes for the other.
Robert, use W10 - Settings | Apps | MS CE Modify - installer during this process changes the file association back.
