For those of us without map then

the prj or wkt tells us to also use Geodetic GRS 1980 and those values are always the same for GRS 1980 and the bentley link ( thanks Samir) doesnt give enough details on what needs to be obtained externally and edited to match up in the Microstation tool , just copy edit to suit isnt enough help really

(FYI the Eccentricity from the link e = root of e squared where e2 was given in the link and polar radius is given as b the semi minor axis).. I suppose its just a whole science in itself and beyond the average cad user even with some small amount gis and survey background... I'm glad I only need 2 GCS systems here in Oz both if which live in CE but only one in V8i...

I compared the WKT file contents to your screen and I can't see where ALL the ellipsoid information comes from in wkt file ...

I understand that with Bentley Map and keyin, but I think the prj file ( for those without map) has all the information you just have to know which bits go where... your screen shot matches the prj file entries better but I still cant see where, even with the wkt file from the link , you get the ellipsoid data ie polar radius and eccentricity...? items 1 & 2 they are not in the prj or the wkt

And the source entry below that where does it come from as it dont look right..

When you edit the GCS just copy the entries shown in my screen shot.

Hi Christiaan,

I am not a Bentley Map user but I looked in the Bentley Map Help and found the following information.

Bentley Map provides a keyin to import a text file with WKT, create and assign a geographic coordinate system (GCS). This text file is typically an ESRI .PRJ file associated with a SHP file.

Key-in: MapCSUtilities ReadWKT filespec

By using this key-in and the WKT file I downloaded from https://epsg.io/5972 I was able to create and assign the GCS shown in this image.

The connected vertical datum NN2000 to ETRS89(horizontal) , the Norwegian "Norway Normal Null 2000" height system wasn't on "my screen"

Hi Christiaan,

Based on the image you posted it looks like you are refering to EPSG:5972 (ETRS89 / UTM zone 32 + NN2000 height) which is not a GCS delivered with MicroStation. You should be able to manually add it to you own custom library by following the Rod Wing's advice in his post. You can use the Well Known Text (WKT) data available at https://epsg.io/5972 to create a new entry for this GCS.

But that is the answer and this GCS is available in Microstation IMHO.

As a German I think the original Post does mean ETRF89 UTM Zone 32, practically the same as ETRS89 UTM Zone 32. Available in V8i and I think in MS CE, too.

It is the standard reference system for the European Union and it is used with the UTM projection by almost every federal German Land Surveying Agencies.

Thats fine but there is northing I can find in the help where or how you get the actual numbers to edit the datum...

I remember in V8i I save an article that you can manually re-register known points and maybe create something of a correction but its still not a new datum...

Maybe buy global mapper (GIS pakage) license is <$900 AUD import with your current recognised datum and transform to missing datum then export to DGN (rename your model ERTF89 UTM zone 32 .. then only work in world coincident...

But I agree that its not good enough bentley should give use a FREE tool or utility to make datums in Microstation or take requests and put new ones in a repository for users to download...

Mean while try the GIS forum and some kind soul may make it for you in their Bentley Map can only ask right?

But I still don't see why Bentley cant take requests and make it for you to add from a repository then they only need make it once per missing datum... not asking for local datums made by a surveyor for a one off survey but World recognised datums like EPSG

Quick google search tells me its a europe datum and the equivalent is EPSG 25832 ( with E, N) or 5652 ( with variant N,E) for Northern Europe...

Are you sure? That's not what the Help says.

Once you set up your custom User Coordinate System Library find one delivered by Bentley that is close to the one you want. Copy it from the Library into your user library. Once in your user library you should be able to edit it and change to what you need.

They could contract with a company that does have Map to produce that GCS.

I have performed a quick search in MicroStation CONNECT Edition (Update 14) and could not locate this GCS in the library. This version currently does not have the ability to add new GCS but you could perform this within Bentley Map | OpenCities Map.

You must tell us the version (e.g. v10.x.y.z) of MicroStation you are using.
