Just wondering if anyone has had any luck exporting IFC "Item Type" data to a spreadsheet using the item type Import/Export tool.....It does appear that it works with this (or mine doesn't anyway)...
Process is "Import an IFC file"
Review the data in MicroStation - It appears as an Item Type
But this doesn't export using the Import/Export tool
This also doesn't appear appear in the Item Type Library within the file...so its available tpo place on other objects
Export the DGN to an i-model and use the iModel ODBC Driver to export the attributes to Excel
I guess you can only Import/Export Item Types that you create via the Item Types dialog, library

What exact version (e.g. v10.x.y.z) of MicroStation are you using? Is it plain old MicroStation or are you using OpenBuildings Designer?
Can you write a Report that displays IFC data? If you can write a Report, you can export that to Excel.

No doubt it's defined in an ECSchema. Post a small DGN example here and perhaps someone can take a look

Hi Darren,

You cannot use Item Type Import/Export tool for IFC data, because they are not Item Types. IFC data are stored as EC data (as Jon mentioned already), whereas Item Types are users-oriented, functionally limited, subset of EC data technology.

That's correct, because when Item Types are created by a user, specific EC schema is created and stored in DGN file (or DGNLIB). When IFC data are imported, general EC schema is created, so it's not displayed as Item Type Library.

It's quite simple in my opinion: Display Details of specific IFC class and choose Export in context mouse context menu.
