Exported ArcMap Annotations not geospatially correct.

I am attempting to export Annotations from ArcMap 10.6.1 to Microstation using the exportToCad tool.

Some of the annotations export fine but, a lot of them get placed at the origin (0,0) in the dgn file.

Is there any advice on how to go about making all the annotations export to Microstation spatially correct?

I checked and all the annotation classes have the same spatial reference in ArcMap.

Any help  or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Most likely it is an ArcGIS issue. What I have also noticed that ArcGIS has troubles with non-graphical elements like custom line symbols which also do not have coordinates(null) so for some reason they get translated to 0,0 origin. It is bad programming practice that null values get translated to zero as for example for GPS coordinates it may try to navigate you to imaginary Null island.

  • Hi Otto , when I was a gis guy I used MapInfo and this was  problem there too, but we had a macro that  changed the  labels in to real graphical elements then exported the text as text to dgn, then exported the linework as a separate dgn..

The only  other thing that I think of that might  work is make a table in GIS of all the text and geocoordinate all the text, that was a function in MapInfo so should be in Arc GIS too,  now you have the text in a table with its cords export to csv and use the microstation  import cords to import your text at the right E & N....

  • Thanks for your reply. I was under the same impression that it's an ArcMap issue but, I want to post the issue here in case someone on the Bentley side had a solution.

I posted this issue on ESRI's forum as well but, I have yet to get a response from anyone in regards to this.
