Is there anyone who has a solution to "Run through corners" ?

Hi,

I work a lot with mapping to authorities, and they have many requirements regarding line styles.

One requirement is to have line styles that are not "broken" at breakpoints, you want the line style complete throughout the mapped line.

When using "Run through corners" in MS (v8i and CONNECT) the setting is not retained when exporting to dwg, how come?
Does anyone know any solution to this?
How can I get the line style to maintain "run through corners" in to my exported file.

  • I was a little unclear, this also applies when I save my file as a DGN-file. When I open the DGN-file again, it has lost the "run through corners" setting.

    Why does not the settings remain, that is my question.

    We constantly receive feedback / comment that the customer wants lines that flow through the entire line, not broken at the insert points / breaking points.

    Anyone have any solution? 

  • Where are these linestyles defined?
    Are you working on DWG files, DGN files, or are you working with some other software package altogether? What version of your software are you using?

    Are you creating these files with something that isn't MicroStation or AutoCAD, but expecting the drawings to display the same way as they do in your host software?

  • Okay, I understand.

    But that is not my main problem in this matter.

    I generally just wonder why the "Run through corners" setting is not maintained when selecting it. That the setting disappears when you open the file again or choose to export it in another format.

  • Forget about export it is impossible to retain it as DWG format doesn't support this. Only what is left is to understand why DGN doesn't save this setting it may be because the lines are imported in file and not actually coming from RSC. At least we no longer use RSC but import our lines to DGNLIB which is linked to workspace so when new empty file is opened and lines are placed the linestyles get automatically imported in file so no RSC is needed on file delivery and enduser see the DGN same as we do. This approach is not possible using DWG format as it still requires to deliver SHX file to view linetypes which uses symbols.

  • We do work with DGNLIB, DGNLIB that have line styles picked/connected to lin- and src-files. And we do get shx-files when we export to dwg, shx-files that we send to our custumers. So it is no problem with the line styles. The problem is just the "run through corners" as I discribe. 

  • It's just an 'appearance' problem that some of the authority's technical reviewers are bothered by. And I mostly wonder if anyone has experienced the same problem and if anyone has found a solution to this? Maybe with the help of FME or something else.

  • At first provide some small example of DWG and DGN where "Run through corners" work or at least some screenshots would be nice because honestly it is hard to understand problem you are dealing with.In MS there is option to shift linestyles which for example is not possible in DWG as linestyles are always centered so for shorter lines you sometimes need a short version of linestyle or create version were first pattern is short and then it is longer.

  • Here is 3 printscreens of same area, created from same dgn-file, open in MS CONNECT.

    Original dgn-fil (3D) 

    - Line style works

    - Run through corners works

    Dwg-file (3D)

    - Line styles dosnt show

    - Run through corners does not work

    Dwg-file (2D)

    - Line style works

    - Run through corners does not work

    We often have to send 3D and 2D dwg-file just to get the line styles to work completely. It is some kind of problem with line styles and 3D files and thats know for authorities and our customers.

    But as you can see "run through corners" does not work even in 2D dwg.

  • There is no such thing as 2D DWG not in way as MS 3D or 2D models. Better use Trueview DWG viewer to check how it looks in ACAD as checking files in Microstation may not show correctly as Microstation can find SHX or RSC files in local Workspace and show linestyles incorrectly.

    Where are the corners? I do not see difference except one screenshot is missing linestyles for some reason.

    If possible provide examples as DGN and DWG files so we can take a look.

  • When I mean 2D dwg-file I mean that it is first exported to a 2D dgn-file, then exported to a dwg-file.

    If you look at the geen and blue lines, you can se the problem. 

    This prinsscreen is a 2D dwg shown i TrueViewer.

  • It means these lines restart at each segment so it seems as if they break at corners. Because DWG has centered linestyles it means the start and end stroke may be shorter and longer depending on segment length so it looks different as the stroke length changes at each vertex. Better try to use Remap table and provide a LIN definition file there so MS doesn't try to convert MS lines to DWG lines.

    Please create a DGN with one of these lines with it's linestyle embedded and attach here so I can check what is happening maybe it is true that automatic conversion produces wrong result. Also a working DWG example how it should look. Without that it is hard to help.
