rotate view by global Z axis and angle

I was given a microstation challenge and I'm stumped. Given a 3D view of arbitrary rotation, how do I rotate that view around global Z axis for certain degree? Special case would be starting at 1 isometric view, a 90 degree rotation around global Z axis would produce the other isometric views.

  • Yes, DIALOG VIEWROTATION should also work in V8i.

NB: the tool is pretty old and does not always get updated... so you usually have to click on the View No. dropdown to get the current view rotation.

Also, I usually have the Step setting at 90 degrees. Same update problem. Changing the value in the dialog needs to be followed by an Enter.

  • The option to keep Z axis while rotating is clearly missing. When working with Reality models in real coordinates they are very hard to use as not easy to keep the model vertical.

I am able to rotate by keeping Z fixed by using Accudraw and some combination of key-ins but it shouldn't be that way and some straight forward tool is needed.

  • the issue with Viewrotation is it only works with View's axis, not global axis.

  • Hi,

I might have missed something but if you start the view command Rotate View with method Dynamic and set the AccuDraw origin before starting rotate you can rotate the view around the Z-axiz.

  • Should work with the Global Axis, when you select 'Drawing'
