Path control for Rasters

Question

The IT department have changed the network address for our main CAD drive and we have lost a lot of raster and reference file links in the process, I have been trying to write an app to reconnect them but I am finding that each of the computers on the network is saving the paths differently. Some are saving relative paths, some full paths, and some without paths just filenames, is there a variable that controls the attachment path for Rasters. 
 I have MS_REF_DEFAULTSETTINGS set to include SaveRelativePath=1 and I am also seeing references with paths varying on different computers storing the network path on some and the mapped drive letter on others, but I presume that is an IT issue. I believe that most of our refs will have relative paths so that should resolve them and the rest will have to be manually reconnected. 
 We are currently using MicroStation V8i SS10, CE update 13, 14, and 15, due to working off-site updates have been put on hold. Ultimately we will have to work with V8i SS10 on some projects and CE on all the newer projects. I have a real mess here so any help with ways to reconnect the lost links would be great.

If a raster is not found at the full path it will check the paths specified in MS_RFDIR and also paths specified in MS_IMAGE. 
 you can set MS_REF_FULLPATHFIRST to 0 and it won't check the full path first. This can save quite a bit on performance if the original server no longer exists. 
 set MS_DISALLOWFULLREFPATH to 1 to prevent full path from being saved. Relative paths still work. 
 we prefer using neither full path nor relative path, instead using only the RFDIR and IMAGE variables for pathing.
