My company upgraded from v8i to Connect last month. After a painful month of not knowing where anything is in Connect and having to change ribbons constantly I have set up a custom ribbon to basically mimic the setup with position mapping shortcuts from v8i. So Element selection is '1', I place a fence by typing '2-1', stretch an element by pressing '3-8', etc. For some reason, though, the number line above the keyboard is not working to access the position mapping. I have to use the number pad. I'm not really sure what's going on with this. Any thoughts? I'm attaching an image of my custom ribbon along with the position mapping settings.
I fiddled with this a little more and I figured out the solution. It all depends on how you type the numbers in the settings dialog. If you use the number pad then those are the only ones that will work for position mapping. Likewise, if you use the number line above the keyboard then that is what will work.

Oh, my...That's good to know!
Strange, but it explains a lot. I've seen a few posts about how the numbers don't work from one or the other location, and it didn't make sense why it's not the same for everyone. Your explanation (while definitely unexpected) would cover all those behaviors.
Have you filed a service ticket with Bentley Support? I'd strongly suggest that. This might be Works As Designed, but it could also be some weird bug. Either way, they should know about it.
