Clip Volume Settings - Change the standard Display Style in View Attributes

Hello everybody,

I was wondering if there is a possibility to change the standard value for the display style of a clip volume.

When I create a clip volume the standard display style for forward is chosen as forward. Makes sense, but I would like to have the standard as "from view".

Can somebody point me to where you can set this standard value? Can it be controlled via a DGNLIB?

We often use the clip volume in 3D models to show only the relevant area we are currently working on. And it is a bit annoying to always switch the display style if you create a new clip volume.

OpenPlant Modeler - Version: 10.08.00.51

  • While I don't know about this particular setting, some settings can be set and saved in the seed file.

  • Hi Mary,

    thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately it does not seem to have an influence what is set in the seed file.

At least I could not configure it in such a way that it is reflected in my working files, but maybe I am missing something.

Does anyone else have an idea?

  • Bump,

I'm also have the same issue. I can't seem to find where to cahnge the default settings to these settings.

    Anyone has an idea?

  • As far as I can tell, there is no default setting or configuration variable for this (unfortunately).  Best you can do I believe is create a function key that issues the following command string (without the quotes):

    "VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG SETCLIPVOLUMEATTRIBUTE 0 Forward DisplayStyle"

This, of course, would be done after you have set up your clip volume.

  • Thanks for the answer,

I think you had the same approach as me a while back and used a macro recording to find the key in, right?

Have you tested it as a key in afterwards? For me it does not work.

As an alternative, if somebody finds this thread later:

What I found is, that the setting for the view gets saved in the file, even when you remove the clip volume.

For files where the clip volumes are relevant, we are using folder structures with empty files at the beginning of projects. I have set up these files to have the setting as we most likely use it. That means I created a clip volume in each of them, set the forward display to "from view", saved settings and deleted the clip volume aftwerwards.

It seems to work, but of course is not a way for everyone.
