I need to convert several hundred drawings from DGN to DWG. I've been creating a remapping CSV to help with the conversion process. Many of the elements in the DGN files have colors that don't match the level that they are drawn on. The instructions in the CSV file say:
If the keyword “%bylevel” appears in the V8OutputColor or DwgOutputColor column, then every element that has the color indicated is changed to be ByLevel
This doesn't seem to work when converting to DWG. If I set the DWGOutputColor to "%bylevel" none of the colors are changed. If I set this to a value, 50ac for example, then it works fine.
To clarify, in the remapping csv this changes everything in the DWG to color 50:
Color,DWGOutputColor%unmapped,50ac
While this doesn't do anything:
Color,DWGOutputColor%unmapped,%bylevel
I suspect that is because the color mapping table is looking to map a color. "ByLevel" isn't technically a color. It's a color setting, but it isn't an actual color.
You are trying to tell the translation which AutoCAD color you want to use for each MicroStation color.
Have you looked in the Help file to see what itmight say about color remapping options?

If that is the case then why do the instructions in CSV file say "If the keyword “%bylevel” appears in the V8OutputColor or DwgOutputColor column, then every element that has the color indicated is changed to be ByLevel"?
OK, you got me...So you want to take all of the colors you haven't mapped yet, and change those elements to ByLevel?
I'm more of an AutoCAD user than a MicroStation user so you'll have to excuse me if I'm not using MS terms but what I'm trying to do is set all elements in a drawing such that their color is "By Level" instead of whatever color they're currently set to.
For example: I have a piece of text that is currently white/color 7. The level that the text is on is color 50. I want to change the text color to "by level". I don't want to change all white/color 7 elements to color 50.
I hope that makes sense.
ps:why are you using %unmapped ?
