I need to convert several hundred drawings from DGN to DWG. I've been creating a remapping CSV to help with the conversion process. Many of the elements in the DGN files have colors that don't match the level that they are drawn on. The instructions in the CSV file say:
If the keyword “%bylevel” appears in the V8OutputColor or DwgOutputColor column, then every element that has the color indicated is changed to be ByLevel
This doesn't seem to work when converting to DWG. If I set the DWGOutputColor to "%bylevel" none of the colors are changed. If I set this to a value, 50ac for example, then it works fine.
To clarify, in the remapping csv this changes everything in the DWG to color 50:
Color,DWGOutputColor%unmapped,50ac
While this doesn't do anything:
Color,DWGOutputColor%unmapped,%bylevel
If I set the DWGOutputColor to "bylevel" none of the colors are changed.
If this reads correct as your statement - then I want to state that it should be %bylevel and not just bylevel. in the column for DWGOutputColor.
and are you selecting the "apply color mapping" option in the remap tab ?

I was setting it to %bylevel. And yes I'm applying color mapping. It doesn't work. If I change %bylevel to 50ac then it works fine. %bylevel doesn't seem to do anything.
Would you mind trying it yourself?
Could you post a small sample of your file and your CSV so that we can try it with your data? That would make it easier to see what you are dealing with.

I can't share these files unfortunately. But you can duplicate what I'm working with fairly easily. You just need a DGN that contains an element with the color overridden (drawn with a color that is different than its level color). Then just export it/save it to a DWG using a CSV that contains the text below you'll end up with the same result:
%section,ColorsColor,DWGOutputColor%unmapped,%bylevel
I mentioned this above - why are you using %unmapped ?
