Using MicroStation Connect Update 15.
I take a DGN file that is in MGA94 Z50 grid and change it to MGA2020 Z50 re-projecting the data to the new coordinates.
I then reference the old file over the new file without re-projection. It should have moved 1.8m to the north east.
But the files are still aligned. The points on the lines and polygons have not changed.
The same happens if I use PCG94 and PCG2020. No shift.
Is there something I am missing?
open your MGA94 file in connect, change the datum to MGA 94 GSB z50 but dont reproject just reset the datum to this new datum.
once its changed the datum now you can reproject with by using the change datum to the MGA 2020 datum.. this only happens with old data from V8i having been set to MGA94 or GDA94 as it was a grid shift conversion before we had CE .. but now for Connect we have to correct the old NT2 grid transform with a new MGA94 GSB before going reproject to MGA2020.. this works I have tested against before and after listed PSMs on government site as well as free GDAit software conversion tools of coordinates values..
I have also written a short article if you go to our Bentley user group victoria australia ( BUGVA for short)
or go to the web site and choose misc and you will see lots of good stuff as well as my little article copy paste the links into your browser.

Below is the direct link to my article on how we handle this data from MGA94 data to MGA2020
