How do we configure MicroStation so that we can use Selectable "Roles" on the Work Page with MicroStation or OpenRoad/Rail Designer? It was shown in the MicroStation SIG All About the DGNWS.
Hi Frederik,
does not MicroStation documentation provide the answer?

I have set the variable _USTN_ROLECFG and it seems to load, but the Role menu om the Work Page does not show up.

Have you written a role configuration file that _USTN_ROLECFG points to?
_USTN_ROLECFG

Yes, I have. Should the role cfg file be written in a specific way?
We would like to have multiple roles selectable.
According to the help documentation it appears you only have to put the role configuration files in the Roles folder defined under the WorkSet folder.
I've tried this and cannot get the role selection to show up.
Checking the value of _USTN_ROLESDIR I see it points to a different path
_USTN_ROLESDIR : System = C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\Configuration\WorkSpaces\Roles\
I created a new folder to match this location and put some role cfg files there. Still no luck.

I don't believe that this multiple choice is available yet. Simply setting the role variable mentioned is not going to enable the multiple choice.
This variable has been around since the release of CONNECT. The multiple choice option is something that has been discussed as being added in future releases.
I'm curious: what specifically are you looking to do with the role configuration ? IE: limit certain tools to be available ? point to yet another set of standards besides what the project/workset is using ? etc...

In our projects we have many different disciplines. Some of them have thier own custom tools, large cell-libraries, dgnlibs etc. For example, the Rail Track Planner do not need tools that the Rail Signal engineer use and so on.
