Line Styles and Font resource file into a dgn file

When creating a line style I have used a particular font. This font is no different to what has been used for the black text below. I have the font recourse file saved on my machine but my colleague hasn't. When my colleague opens the dgn the linestyle uses a different font, but the text in black that uses the same font appears ok. How can I fix this issue so that the linestyle appears the same as mine without the need of the font resource file?

  • I suggest trying Carl's suggestion. Follow the directions in the Wiki article that he supplied with the link..

The text will change from text to a symbol. An "A" will no longer be a text letter but a symbol comprised of 3 lines. This way the text font is not needed and the line style will contain the entire line style definition (including the text symbols).

You can also go one step further and import the line style definition into the drawing so that the person receiving the drawing doesn't need to have your line style resource file.

How do you do that exactly.. ?

  • Simply, import lines in dgnlib and place dgnlib in correct project folder. Make sure RSC files are not referenced so lines placed from DGNLIB will automatically embed in new file on first use. So much frustration is now resolved by not using RSC and MS/ACAD fonts. RGB colors are also way to go but it still creates more problems than it resolves.

  • But  I want the dgn to be independent after import custom linestyle so I can give to client  who doesn't have or want rsc or dgnlib files.. my desire is like our acad friends  who can save the linestyles inside the cad file  but I want to do it with dgn ,  will the import as out lined by Carl make them part of the dgn  xref file ?

  • save the linestyles inside the cad file

Well I was curious as well. I've fooled with dgnlib stuff, does not work for me (other than the GUI stuff). But having the linestyle stored within the DGN is desirable. So here's how (in Connect terms)- Go to Line Style Editor (manage) > Import and select the ones you want. It does change it's position in the list (moves to top), just another of the multitude bugs in Connect. This should take care of it for DGNs, I wonder what an ACAD user would get when they import the DGN.

BTW- over here a DRG is a digital raster graph.

  • Lets say just to be sure I select them all, if one or two have not been used, will it make any difference?
