XYZ Text export ACS

I am using MicroStation V8i SS10. My DGN is set to use the ACS and display coordinates in longitude/latitude. I want to export the coordinates to a text file using XYZ. The tool only exports northings and eastings. Is there a keyin I can use to export to lat/long.

Thank You

  • ok you need to make a new drg then go to the GCS tool and set the datum to Geographic not Projected  then use North America and choose the one that fits your state plane best … I think LL 83 might be the one, but I don't know your state planes information I'm in Australia and we use meters in NE and Long Lat in WGS84 … anyway it will change your units to degrees instead of us survey feet, don't worry its just a holding file, now ref attach your LATLONG.dgn that is in us survey feet...  and tell it to reproject  the ref to at active.. now select and  copy  or merge  and your  points are now in degrees and your export to xyz to a text.csv should be in decimal degrees...

There are only a few ways to do this outside msnt look to google for a state plane NE to Geographic cords ie Lat Long  and it should be able to handle the csv output you made from the file you uploaded ( I exported some and it gave me NE positive cords)

The other is to import the points into a GIS package in which you defined the active as  Long Lat for your state plane, then import the dgn as state plane and let the GIS replot the points then you can create report re the points attributes ie lat long and Elvation.

in connect edition you might be also able to create a report on the reprojected points in the LL83 model instead of export to file .. sorry for not being able to do more but this should set you in the right direction..Do you have access to a real surveyor to help you choose the right lat long datum equivalent or he may have trans formation software to export your points to Lat Long Degrees...

  • Thank you very much Lorys for your time and efforts. I'll experiment with these suggestions. I was able to get what I need from a co-worker using InRoads V8i SS10.

  • Hi Marino,

I glad that you were able to get what you needed from you co-worker.

I had one of our application engineers here internally to try a couple of things but he ran in to some roadblock.

Might I suggest you post the idea over on the Ideas forum to get an idea of what your peers would think about such a feature.

Did you try the method I suggested?
