According to the content in V8i or CE MS Help file:
We should be able to keyin <<5>> or <<AAAA>> to create "Enter Data Field", but it cannot works after I input <<5>> or <<AAAA>> in Word Processor editor and placement it in MS, but it cannot works to for creating "Enter Data Field". Do you know what's wrong with it? thanks a lot
did you set the enter data field character in the Preferences dialog (File > Settings > User > Preferences: Text category, ED Character field). https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/MicroStation%20Help-v12/en/GUID-B4197BFD-8214-5661-F487-E10DBB379CB3.html

Key in a matched pair of field delimiters (<< and >>). To leave an empty enter data field with a certain number of enter data field characters, you can type that number of spaces within the delimiters, or you can type text between the delimiters.
Can you still select the Dialog box editor vs the Word Processor Editor in User Preferences?
I believe the help file is talking about the "traditional" Text Editor dialog box that was introduced in V4. When the advanced text placement capabilities were introduced in V8, a new Word Processor Text Editor was introduced, which works differently than the earlier dialog box.
