When using the minimum measure in MicroStation Connect edition it says ‘cannot measure the distance between two elements’ ?
Open the same file in V8i edition and the minimum measure works seamlessly as it should.
Is this a program bug or has something changed for this function in Connect edition , and if so why?
Thanks,
Andy
Hi Andrew,
accordingly to this list, the defect 1129711 should be fixed in MicroStation CE Update 16, released this week. So maybe it's time to download and test ;-)

Hi Jan, I have now tested in update 16, and although the minimum measure does now appear to work for 3D elements. The 'construct a minimum distance line' function (I assumed would be fixed too as a similar function) still doesn't work for 3D elements. I guess this will need a specific post.
thanks,
Andrew

Why do you assume two different tools (measurement and element construction) should be fixed together (when maybe no defect is reported for the latter)?

Yes, it's the right way. Plus provide test case to demonstrate with what elements in what situation it does not work.
Regards,
I had in fact mentioned the same problem occurred for 'construct a minimum distance line' in early details at the top this thread (it must have been overlooked).
As an engineer I just expect the software to function correctly - I do not want to spend time having to detail every problem I encounter then wait months to be fixed for a new version.
I had posted another problem over a month ago that affects all our existing drawings when opened in CONNECT edition. After one initial response (where they will investigate a possible defect) there has been no further communication even when I asked for an update two weeks ago. I'm increasingly disappointed that such a great CAD software has so many problems. I will continue to use V8i SELECT edition as it is much more reliable for the work I do.
thanks

Yes, but the defect was created for "measure minimum distance", not for any other issue.

Well, we all do ... errr ... in fact not, as developer, I know that no software works correctly ;-) ... but a number of issues have to be maintained on some minimum level.

It's hard to avoid it: Until problem is reported, is cannot be fixed. But, when all issues, reported (only) in this forum would be fixed, not many left to be reported ;-) Unfortunately (even when U16 finally contains quite a lot of fixes), the pace of repairs and fixes is extremely slow.

Unfortunately, it's a common feeling of many users, especially when working in 3D and/or with DWG data :-(
From my humble point of view the software up until now has worked perfectly for all the years I have used it (over 20 years now). We pay a lot of money for lots of engineering software including Microstation, and we simply expect it to function correctly as it did originally.
I can only second the sentiment. I've used Microstation from the beginning. I used to brag on the program, the community, to anyone who would listen. Now I wish I could switch to another CAD program. But at my age, in my situation it's not practical. I paid over 7 grand when I went self employed back in the 90s, plus the Select program, it's over a thousand a year now. Happy to pay thru the nose, but the software(Connect) is bad. I'm wore out with Service Tickets. Keeping my eyes peeled for a good open source CAD project.
You folks that stuck with v8i made the right choice, hopefully they'll extend support for that beyond the scheduled demise date. I've always kept my ustation current, this time I lose.
Apologies for being so off topic.
