Hi all,
I have problems with OBD Update 8 and / or MicroStation Update 15. All thing are working fine except 2: every time I try to use Material Editor or Light Manager tools (either via ribbon, tasks or key-in), program crashes. All the other rendering related tools seem to work fine.
I have already installed and reinstalled video drivers, but even if I know I don't have the best computer and / or video card, all worked fine until last week ago or so. In fact I have an older Laptop in which both apps are working fine.
If it may help, I see that when I open a coordination model I have (not a lot of reference models, 15 or so) I noticed that window display is much slower, and is hard to rotate the display. May it be related with the render engine that is used for windows? QuickVision? Something related with PBR materials?
I have updated video drivers, and also tried to uninstall and delete all traces of any Bentley product, cleaned registry, etc etc, reinstalled all again and no luck.
Have these two tools something in common that I am missing and that may be the cause?
Thanks in advance,
Pedro
Hi Pedro,
Could you please provide the Exception History folder? it is the folder where MicroStation Exception logs and minidumps are created. This will help us to investigate what is happening
https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/8832/how-to-quickly-find-and-collect-exception-logs-and-minidump-files
I found a Defect related to material editor and light manager for update 15. are you rendering using path tracer?
Could you please check if the same crash happens if you change in the material editor and light manager the preview Mode to smooth shade or vue raytrace ?

Hi Maria
Well, I can't change that since I can't open any of them, that's the problem :-)
I noticed also that sometimes I got a crash if I move the Adjust View Brightness slider in any of the views. That's why I think it may be related with QuickVision. Surprisingly once I get the error, if I "ignore" it, I can keep on moving, zooming, chaning Display Style or adjusting Brightness slider without any further crash. So if it is something related with QV, it is something that only happens when iti is started.
Note: errors happens no matter what file is open. I mean, they are not linked to a corrupt window of a particular DGN.

Not reviewed logs and will leave for development comment via Maria, but we did have a similar report previously which lead to the following https://communities.bentley.com/products/bentley_internal_community_solutions/w/wiki/53284/microstation-crashes-when-opening-material-editor-dialog incase of any use to others.

Thanks Carl, but the links is not working, leads to a Page not Found. I think Maria told me it's an internal Wiki.

Hi Carl, Pedro,
Development is looking into it, so far, we found that only his desktop is having issues as his processor has NOT AVX.
There are two defects regarding No AVX processor installer code. Pedro is testing some info I sent him privately via SR.
It is still to be confirmed but we believe issue happens because we started shipping processor specific files from U14 onwards.
Thanks for testing the workaround provided by development team and confirming that this resolved the issue for both MicroStation and OpenBuilding
For the record, I have linked your SR with Defect 1120412: Add back non AVX processor installer code.
Hi Maria,
i have the same problem.

What is the exact version no. (e.g. v10.x.y.z) of MicroStation that you are using? Use key-in VERSION to see the version no. in the MicroStation Message Center, or Help→About MicroStation in the backstage.
VERSION
See this blog that shows you how to obtain MicroStation's version number.
Also reveal other pertinent information...

The exact version is 10.15.2.11Windows 10 Home 64-Bit-Version (10.0, Build 19044)Intel(R) UHD Graphics
Hey Fabian,
If you are still facing the issue then please raise an SR. There are some files that needs to be shared with you which would help you stop the crashing.
