[Mstn CE U15.2] Modify Element creates extra element (defect)

Hi,

I have had a continual, occasional issue with the "modify element" tool.  When using it on a line string, it sometimes works fine.  Other times the modify element creates an extra element.  I don't know if this new element is identical to the original element (post-modification), or if it is copy of just a portion of the original element (post-modification).  I really want to file an SR for this, but I'm having issue recreating the problem.  Has anyone experienced this, or can help me recreate it?

Again, this is a continual (aka reoccurring problem over multiple versions of Mstn CE), but occasional (only occurs some of the time) issue.

To recreate the issue (if I could):
1) Draw a line string (more than one line segment with the smartline tool)
2) Start the Modify Element tool
3) Select a segment or vertex of the line segement
4) Accept a point to move that segment/vertex to.
(I don't know if there is a dependency to using AccuDraw Axis Lock or to snapping at some point in the process.)

When this issue occurs, you will have a result of two overlapping elements instead of just one.  One of the problems in recreating this, is that you can't "see" the extra element, until you discover that there is more than one element there.

If anyone has any information related to this, please let me know.  Also, if there is already a defect report for this, please let me know the number.

Sorry that I am making this request.  Sometimes I can undo and recreate the failure, then I go to make a video of it and it doesn't fail.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • What do you have "click sensitivity" set to? If it's not already set to slow, try doing that and see if it makes any difference.

  • Hi Brien,

My click sensitivity is ready set to slow.

  • Yeah, I didn't give it much of a chance of helping, because it wouldn't account for a copy being made (modify tool only replaces the original element).

Any apps running that aren't part of the CE install?

Next time you end up with the copy, post a dgn with the 2 elements...not sure what we can tell from that but I'll take a look.

  • I really want to file an SR for this, but I'm having issue recreating the problem.

Can't duplicate that one, but have a few like that, unable to recreate easily. But I've given up on beta testing for Bentley, they've wore me out. The one I have that's most destructive- When using docked menus on the edge of the screen on a 2 monitor set-up, the cursor focus will jump to the other monitor, I'll keep on clicking and move emails, edit spreadsheets, that sort of thing.

  • Hi Brien,

I've had my issue happen multiple times times today.  Each time, I have either discovered it a step or two after the fact, or I did a "undo" command and tried to recreate the result.  Every time, I have not been able to produce the same results, with approximately the same steps.

One time, I was working with a closed shape.  When I discovered that there were two elements instead of one, I saw one element was a shape, and the other was a line string.

Please see the attached zip file.  It has "Floor Plan 1", which is only a referenced file.  I stripped out most of the elements from this because this is a public forum.  I also have "Roberts Trash..." "Before" and "After".  The "After" is the result.  I did my modify-element command, selected the resulting two elements, then quit Microstation.  The "Before" file is a recreation of the condition before the error.  I deleted one of the elements (I don't know if I deleted the old element or the new element), and modified the remaining element to look like it did before my command.

Here is the steps I did:

    1) I copied the light blue shape from the left to the right. Then I had modified that shape and deleted part of it, to get the yellow elements at the right side of the screen.  (There are multiple steps that happened between #1 & #2..., but this is for history's sake.)

    2) I started the "modify element" command.

    3) In the circled area on the bottom-right, the yellow line string has a portion that jogs out.  I snapped & accepted on the line-segment portion of the line string (not a vertex.)

    4) I then used AccuDraw to do an Axis lock.

    5) I then snapped and accepted to an element in the referenced floor plan that was in line with the horizontal elements to the left and right of the popped-out section.

    6) I then selected my elements and saw that I suddenly had two elements in the new location (post-modification location).

Of course, I just discovered that I copied the wrong file!  I've already modified the resulting file to the "before" condition and can not recreate my error.  I have attached the recreated "before" condition, but currently that is useless without the failed result...
