Hi there,
Im trying to change the level of an element in MicroStation but all the other attributes, such as line weight, color, line style all get changed as well and I don't want that. I want the attributes to stay the same but just change only the level of the element ! Even when I don't have the other attributes check marked, the attributes still change (please see image below). I know it has to do with the symbology bylevel attributes of the level I'm changing the element onto, but on other drawings i've only changed the level and nothing else changed (which is what i wanted) even though the symbology bylevel colour i was changing onto was green.

What is the exact version no. (e.g. v10.x.y.z) of MicroStation that you are using? Use key-in VERSION to see the version no. in the MicroStation Message Center, or Help→About MicroStation in the backstage.
VERSION
See this blog that shows you how to obtain MicroStation's version number.
Are your levels defined with symbology override turned on? Look at the bottom of the Level Properties dialog shown below...

Yes. When an element is "by level", it inherits the symbology from level. When such element is moved from one element to another, the element symbology changed automatically.

To analyze the situation in detail, element and level settings have to be shared too.

When the element is "by level", its symbology is change always, no exception. You cannot change this behavior (only to do not use "by level").
When element is displayed in the same way (with the same symbology) after it's moved to another level, it can be because:

There is the chance that you have the "Sync ByLevel" Preference on, see:

As Jan also mentioned if the element properties such as line weight and color are already set to bylevel when changing the level they will inherit the new symbology.
