CONNECT Edition reference layer colors not matching source dwg file colors.

I have a question that should, theoretically, not exist, and can't figure out where the issue might be coming from.

I have several color plans in dwg format, and when opened with AutoCAD and, funnily enough, OBD all colors appear in the correct location. However, when I reference the same exact files into my compilation files with other files, the layer colors get jumbled. And I don't mean that layer A-AREA-PATT-1 changes from dwg color table 31 to dgn color table 68, it's that the layer colors seam to swap with each other. In dwg, A-AREA-PATT-1 could be 31, but then when referenced into dgn file A-AREA-PATT-1 is a different color and A-AREA-PATT-5 is 31. Stranger yet, it doesn't seem to affect all layers in all files, just most layers in most files. Below are snapshots of the AutoCAD and OBD layer managers, showing the source file and reference file layers, as a snippet of what I'm dealing with.

Example A:

Here, all layers maintained color with no special treatment whatsoever. Simple referenced in the file, and it worked.

Example B:

Here, we get a partial jumbling of layers. A-AREA-PATT-6 through 12 all maintained color, no fowl play. 1 through 5, however, played musical chairs.

Example C:

Here, it's a complete jumble of colors, and two colors (51 and 142) are completely absent, instead replaced (but still jumbled) with two other colors (131 and 231). These two "new" colors do exist in other files (such as the one from Example B) but not in this particular dwg file.

Due to the nature of the project, I am unable to share the files or any screenshots of the actual design, but clearly something is odd. When testing if a file displayed correctly when opening in OBD and subsequently opening the file where it was referenced into in a separate instance of OBD, the colors appeared to be fixed (i.e. where before the reference file mismatch all layers from the AutoCAD file, all layers were matching after opening the dwg file in OBD).

When doing my first pass through attaching the reference files, I don't remember seeing anything strange about the colors, and only later noticed that they weren't how the were supposed to look when doing a test plot. I'm at a complete loss as to why this is happening so inconsistently with these layers, and so inconsistently between different files and even within the same file, and don't know if any manual assignment of reference file layer colors is going to stick in the long run. I also, if you have noticed, cannot guarantee that these area layers are going to be the same color between dwg files, so I am unable to add each to Levels_Architectural.dgnlib.

Any input that can shine some amount of light on this issue would be greatly appreciated!
