E 1OG - copy.dwg
I am getting DWGs and need to count the (shared) cells.
And I can't because many of them have changed names (?description in microStation). So when "Select By Attributes" is used I am not finding all same shared cells
When I open them in Microstation [CE15] a number of cells are fine and have their "rightful" name.
But other cells are "renamed" with an asterix. And these otherwise SAME cells have a different name each! (running number with an asterix *U60 ... *U62 ... Why?
I am not able to count these "singled out" shared cells.
In AutoCad I find the VERY elements with their correct names - even after closing the file in MicroStation !!!
What ist the difference between the "Element Description" in MicroStation and the ""Name" of the Block in AutoCad.
Why is there not the Block Name show in Microstation?
I read about the asterix and unnamed shared cells in other posts. But that is definitely not the case here - or is it? Not in AutoCad obviously!

Here's how to write a Cell Count Report with MicroStation CONNECT.
In your case, the report will contain a separate count of *U60 and U60.

Lorys' suggestion would work: export the MicroStation report to Excel, then combine the count of *U60 and U60 in the worksheet. You can probably create a macro in Excel to remove the Asterix...

can you see the Block Names via programming? It does not show in microStation, but it is there as you can see in the screenshot from TrueView.
I need a list like a Legend, where a picture of the cell symbol with the count is shown. How else do I find out what the Symbol is of all the Annonymous Name Asterixes?
There is no *U60 and U60 .
But there is "*U60", "*U61", "*U123", "*Unnnn*
And even then:
If the Block Name would be shown (as long as there is one availableavailable) all would be good.

I wrote a VBA Cell Counter. I used it to create a CSV report from your DWG file...
cell-count.csv
It has a rudimentary legend creator...
It's a freeware VBA macro. It's not locked, so the source code is available to view and modify.

this is great, yet it does not ultimatively help with the issue though, I suppose.
As the Block Names from DWG (as visible in aCAD or TrueView) are not shown in uS - if there is that asterixed "Annonymous Name" they the csv shows that one.
I probably be quicker counting the stuff manually.
