even after clicking the tab of find/replaces, I am not able to see the dialog box. I thought it must be hidden somewhere on the side of the screen, tried to use the move command but still not effective. please suggest
It's always best to follow Forum best practices and tell the forum which version are you using. The solution (if any) isn't always the same.

You also didn't mention if you're working with more than one monitor. Sometimes dialogs get behind the second (or more) window.
Did you follow these wiki steps?
You can also try this steps.
If nothing works you can restore Microstation factory defaults.

After you select the Find/Replace menu item, go to the Window menu. Is the dialog listed there among your open dialogs? If it is, what happens if you click on it there?
José is right - sometimes dialog boxes can get "lost". The Wiki article he links has a lot of options to "recover" it.
If all else fails, you can delete your user preference files & XMLs, which will restore all dialogs and settings to their default. You will have to re-set all of your preferences, docked dialogs and such, but the lost dialog should become available again. Do try the other options first, to save yourself that work.

RMB on desktop and choose graphics and change to lower resolution just temporary and the naughty missing dialog will appear and you can move it then return or restore the resolution .. I also use it to move dialoges that you can grab the tops .

We've had this issue too and it seems to be a fairly common issue. I've posted an idea for a find dialog box button that would show a list of open dialog boxes and then move the selected one front and center.
