Linear Pattern

Question

Using the Linear Pattern to create a line with an X symbol. Is there a way to change the distance between cells (X&rsquo;s)? Maybe there is a better way to do this in Microstation, I&rsquo;m open for suggestions.

Creating a custom line style would be preferable to using a linear pattern, especially if you will be modifying the line end points, etc.

In SS4, linestyles are definitely still defined solely in the RSC and not saved into your drawing. If you will be unable to send the RSC along with your files (or cannot count on your client to know how to properly apply them) then linear patterning may be your better bet. Linear patterns are, however, less flexible than custom linestyles, and not able to be adjusted.

you can also import from acad linestyle but the -x- is the easiest to make in notepad... as .lin file. 
 google this and it take you 15 mins and works first time.. the linestyle creation tool gui is just too complex.. I used 20 times in 30 years and unless you use it alot you just forget is extremely powerful but such old interface not easy to master.. too much complexity ,,, we need a simpler tool for simple linestyle... btw search any DoT website and they will have the -X- for abandoned linestyle you can download and import just that one on its own... but then you have to share it with clients and fellow employees or they wont see it in dgns... 
 If you still want your linear pattern... if I remember right you have to design the cell to give what you want.. 
 In ask inga since your using V8ss2 there is an mdl that has some very usefull tools and one is to do fake line style with Text like --OHP--- 
 it has some settings but pretty cool for one offs just to get a plan out the door on time

 only drawback is doesnt use level names only the old 1-63 but you can create level first then make it with tool and rename level .. still works for me in V8i ss3 and 10

 Sorry Karl but didnt I post that already and that it works in v8 and v8i but not CE ... 
 BTW it doesn't really create a line style it basically does the linear patterning for you without you having to work it all out... which is pretty darn cool for doing it quickly ... the gui for linestyle creation has been a personal dislike for me ever since I saw it in V5 for dos and it still looks exactly the same as it did in V4 from unix / clix intergraph days as it does today !!! in V8i and CE! 
 I disliked it then and dislike it now... it's too complex and too user hostile or clumsy .. don't get me wrong it's great for very complicated lines and can creates stuff nothing like else can.. for example our custom built DoT lane line marking for roads looks like the real thing nothing in other software comes close, one shot change line to custom linestyle done , no blocks , cells or linear array required for reflectors or double lines and are true width 600mm or 300 mm with fill etc 
 ... but I wish we had a simple version for simple stuff or like we do with cells you draw it and turn it into a cell > but instead it would make a simple linestyle like -OHP- 
 Our autocad cousins have had express tools for years to draw it and it is now a simple linestyle or the good old .lin file in notepad simple line and text and line this works great and I can remember how to use it but our complex mstn gui!!! yuck! 
 The once every two or 3 years I need to use it for one lousey line .. I have to dig out the pdf tutorial and the video and go thru about 2 -3 hours of trial and error to make a line and text and line.. forget it! and then I have to publish the new style to clients and fellow users and remind every fellow user to publish and share it with other clients ... no thanks ... 
 I use the msn tool or linear patterning ... no need to publish or share anything ...
