I have master site plans that are divided into numerous sheets. I have one file with a bunch of irregular boundaries defining the locations of sheet cuts. When creating a sheet, I reference the master plan, the border and the sheet cuts file. The intent is to use the boxes as elements for reference clipping. Works fine. However, when I then turn off the sheet cuts file which is no longer needed, close and reopen, the master plan is no longer clipped. It clips again when I turn the sheet cuts reference back on. Any way around this?

Not sure of the best way for you to do this, but my workaround would be to have the boundaries in the reference file be placed on a level that does not plot. They would still be visible in the sheet file, but would not print.
You may be able to freeze the level the sheet boundaries are on without the clipping being affected.
I know we have a file setup for that type of use. I did not create the file so I would need to investigate what we did in the end.

That is because the clip is associated to the reference clip element. When you turn the clipping reference off, those elements "disappear" and the clip is lost.
MwLong is right that you need to approach this slightly differently - a "no plot" level is ideal. the clip reference can remain on, but your shapes will not print.
You could also create your clip shapes as "Construction" elements, and then set your print drivers and your views to not display Constructions. They will still be available to the software, but they will not be seen while you are working.
You also have the option to turn that level of your reference off by view in your view display. I have seen the Global Freeze seems to render them invisible to both myself AND the software, but View Display off still allows the software to use them.

MaryB, I believe you are correct about using freeze for the level. I was thinking View Display would work, but I have not had a chance to check our file yet.
Thank you. A non-plotting level is a functional workaround but not ideal.
Global Freeze seemed to work, where view display did not previously. I'll try it out on some more files, but that may be the solution.
