Greetings all;
Subject: Copy/Move Fence Content to File
I have updated to MicroStation Connect update 16 recently from V8i. I am working on AutoCAD files for my project in 2d . When providing a “copy” file to my customer I normally make a fence clip file of my work to illustrate my status. The master drawing is made up of reference files (architectural, process equipment, mechanical etc.) and has the clip boundaries of the reference files. When I use the “Save to Fence” command and chose the Copy Clip command, the file is saved but I have noticed that the entities that are blocks or grouped entities do not clip and are also fully included which is not what I am expecting to see. In the V8i version “Copy/Move Fence Content to File” the file is clipped perfectly as what I intend the file to be. Whatever was in the “block section” or grouped entities usually appears to be exploded or as a drop element. It appears that V8i has logical operation process when dealing with the clip references and knowing what to do when the fence crosses a block (or cell) boundary or grouped entities and knows to clip at the clipping boundary of each reference file and clips everything inside that boundary regardless.
Are there configuration settings to allow for fence file copy in Connect version as like what was for V8i version? Is “Save to Fence” in Connect version intended to be the same as “Copy/Move Fence Content to File” in V8i?
Not sure whether this is the type of option you might be interested in but there is a new configuration variable that may be able to control what you are explaining here..
_USTN_MERGE_INTERNALREFERENCES_SAVEASV8 = 1
Option to flatten files (merge references) for drawing production

Hello Andrew, thanks for your reply.
I do not usually mess with configuration however, I looked in the configuration section and could not find anything that starts with USTN_, appears to be all MS_ that I could see. Am I looking in the wrong section? I would appreciate more guidance. It is unclear to me if this works for AutoCAD files? Without this setting you described, the "File Merge" works as needed in Connect version for the AutoCAD files that I need to have "bounded" and the drawing appears as to what I need for the customer's requirements. I prefer to fence copy out since this takes less steps and is quicker to perform than file merge procedure. Also, when using V8i while doing the file merge procedure, V8i would often crash my computer in certain files so that is when I started using the fence copy out command. This procedure, up to now, was working perfectly.
MicroStation does not display the variables beginning with _USTN by default since they are considered system variables.
Define this and they will e visable.
_USTN_DISPLAYALLCFGVARS = 1
