I have a text favorite based on a text field.
This works fine when placing as text. When I try to use the same text favorite to place a Note the resulting text does not update if I change the property (Item Type value).
It does pick up the correct value but will not update if I change the value later using Properties. The same applies if I create a plain text field (no Text Favorite).

I did some tests (MicroStation Update16), tried to put a text by Place text, by Place note (text favorite or simple text) and edited them by properties. I was able to gain all the changes.
Could I ask you if this happens with all the Item Types properties?I would like to ask you if this happens with a particular drawing or with every file? Could please share a test file with me, in this way I could check it.

I've dome some more testing (with my text favorite containing a text field using an Item Type property.)
If I use the text favorite to place a text, the value is updated as soon as I edit the property.
If I use the text favorite to place a note, I have to run the command FIELD UPDATE ALL to update the value in the model.

There was a similar bug in early releases of CONNECT, where a text field inside a cell would not update automatically. That bug was fixed in about Update 10, I recall. From your description, a note is behaving in a similar fashion. Are they related?

I get that the issue is related only with Place note, in my case the value updates immediately.I suggest to set the configuration variable MS_AUTO_UPDATE_FIELDS to ALWAYS and let me know what happens.
Nope, no change. Also, the model property Update fields is true.

Thank you Krister for your file. I would like to inform you that this issue resulted in a Bug 696093: "MS_AUTO_UPDATE_FIELDS = ALWAYS is not working for Notes".
As we said I opened a ticket for you and you will be updated on this. Thank you for reporting the issue.
I want to notify, as Jon said, that there is an old defect on the same issue but for text in reference, Bug 661377: "Text Fields linked to elements in reference with the display off do not update"

That's not the problem I reported, but thanks for your comment! The problem I noted was that Text Fields in cells did not update correctly, and that problem was fixed several Updates ago.
