dgn and 4 tiff images wont stack/align so I can draw in roads using tiff images??

I have a .dwg file that was converted to a .dgn file. I also have 4 .tif images. When I open the .dgn file the data shows up but when I reference in the 4 .tif images they are shot way up in the middle of no where. I have choose a coordinate system to match both the .dgn and tiff images about 10 different ways and the .dgn data will not stack/align to the images. I have been away from microstation for awhile but anything would help? Maybe the design file? Raster manager? Thanks.

  • It would help if you state the MicroStation version...And also check if your file has a Geographic Coordinate System defined.

  • The dgn had no coordinate system defined and was told in was Texas South. I have used all Texas South and did the samething for the tiff images but nothing has aligned. A buddy I work with got it all to work in global mapper but not microstation.

ok  simple work around  get your buddy to export the imports back out first the dgn to dgn and get him to write down the projection datum ie the coordinate system then get him to export the images as a different  format say ECW or jpg with sister  or world file.

Now you know the coordinate system  open a new dgn ( just check your units and  is your Global origin set to 0,0)  type go=$ to find out. ( had trouble recently with shp files and my global origin so now I'm superstitious about it)  set the CGS and ref attach yuor global mapper outputs ie the ecws and the drg they should now land in the right place...

The original images / tifs if you attach them via raster manager and  use the georef option after attachment  you can use the info in raster manager to work out if there is a GCS inbuilt if there is a world file or sister file open it with note pad and see the settings or name for the GCS so you can match it in Microstation your using V8i SS2 not sure if you have all the datums/ GCS available..

I use bing  in V8i SS10 ( with a bing key enabled) or Connect Ed 16 to use bing and see if my dgn is true location....

your microstation is very old .... you should consider getting Connect Ed in addition to your SS2 and slowly transition to the new version learning as  you go so no pressure to deliver projects
