Dear colleagues,
when we updated to
Open Plant Modeler CONNECT Edition Update 8 – Version 10.08.00.51 and
Microstation CONNECT Version 14.010.014.002.0001.00.6 and Update 15 Version 10.15.0074 managed in
Project Wise Version 10.00.03.280
we encountered a significant slow down in the behaviour of our systems. We run the software e.g. on HP ZBooks with i7 CPUs 2.7 GHz and 16 GB RAM which seem to be too weak for that application. Our projects consist often of upto 200 models, 10% having more than 100 MB per model, rest around less than 2 MB per model. Many performance problems (blocking and freezing) occur when we handle converted models from customers or suppliers, mostly generated from .stp files.
With what hardware config. did you make your best performance experience and what would you regard as the minimum acceptable hardware to work in a fluent manner and have still enough hardware ressources to present the content of a.m. totality 200 models through OP Modeler and Microstation also in online meetings via MS Teams? Do you use out-of-the-box software configurations or did you have your config files customized?
To Admin / Mod: Maybe this topic should be connected to a Modeler forum also, pls. connect / shift, if necessary.
Best regards
Thomas

200 * .1 * 100Mb = 2Gb
200 * .9 * 2Mb = 180Mb
Total disk memory for 200 models ~= 2.2Gb disk space. When opened, the memory required by a model is often substantially greater than its disk size. If you monitor memory usage with Windows Task Manager, how much memory does MicroStation use with all those models open (presumably attached as references)?

I would increase RAM to at least 32Gb. Depending on your measurements using Windows Task Manager, you may need more.
Does the on-board graphics card have its own video memory? If not, it's stealing from your main memory.

Hi Thomas,
Did you review the Matrix to verify which MicroStation version is certified for your PW version 10.00.03.280?
Check https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/ProjectWise%20Version%20Support%20Matrix-v1/en/GUID-1A2E193F-C3D9-4709-92A2-E5B9301B5946.html
PW version 10.00.03.280 seems certified for MS CE update 12 and 13.
MicroStation update 14 is certified for PW 10.00.03.434 and MicroStation Update 15 is certified for PW 10.00.03.334, 10.00.03.336 and 10.00.03.434
