Reassign relative association

Is there any way to reassign relative association in a Text to select another element (retarget) or another location of the same element?

Thanks.

  • I have seen that we can do this in a "Place Note" because the edge of the arrow is a grip and we can move it to snap to another element but we cannot do this with a Text (Place Text).

can you explain better please... how is a piece of text associated to an element in the first place ? let alone reassociated?

My understanding is that only dimensions are associated text elements to another element, unless you you mean tags, or data fields or items in CE... with the place note its special dim, the text in the place note is associated with the leader  arrow   object  and not what the arrow  points to. which is why you can relocate the arrow and the text follows the leader.. or move the text and the  leader changes  place but the tip of the arrow stays where you left it but you can move the object the arrow touches  and the place note just stays there ie not associated to the object...

Here's an example of why it's important for the OP to reveal the version of MicroStation he's using.

What is the exact version no. (e.g. v10.x.y.z) of MicroStation that you  are using? Use key-in VERSION to see the version no. in the MicroStation Message Center, or Help→About MicroStation in the backstage.

See this blog that shows you how to obtain MicroStation's version number.

MicroStation CONNECT lets you create a text field where the field's content is obtained from an element property or Item Type instance value.  When you create such a text field you have the option to associate the text with the host element.

    For example:

    1. Place a cell
    2. Start the place text command
    3. In the text editor dialog, create two text fields
    4. One field will show X coordinate, the other Y coordinate
    5. Take your time and pay careful attention to the prompts because it's easy to miss what's going on

You should end up with a cell that shows its coordinates in the associated text element.  Move the cell, and the coordinates change.  It's the assocation that glues the text to the cell.

But without knowing the OP's version of MicroStation, his question remains unclear.

  • but to associate an existing text (or reassociate one dropped from an association before - seems not available since this request

An unruly way to associate an existing text that you do not like to retype:

Element Selection> doubleclick on text (so it appears in the text editor)

Then select Place Text (the text will be ready to be placed again)

use the above setting to assoicate to an element

I see what you mean.   wrote [08-Jul-2014]: Enhancement # 118517 is created for tracking.  Well, that was a few years ago: we should assume that Bentley Systems forgot about that commitment.  Post a new Idea (and back-date it seven years)!
