Fonts Supported by MicroStation

• MicroStation resource fonts (stick fonts) are installed with MicroStation.  There are tools to work with stick fonts
• TrueType fonts are installed to the Windows fonts folder.  MicroStation doesn't install TrueType fonts, but they are often installed by other apps.  You can purchase good-quality TrueType fonts or obtain poor-quality TrueType fonts free
• AutoCAD shx fonts are not part of MicroStation but MicroStation will use them when exchanging files with AutoCAD

You can apply element symbology (e.g. line weight) to a stick font.  You don't need to edit the font.  The only fonts you can edit in MicroStation are stick fonts (resource fonts).  Here's resource font ISOREC with line weight 1, 2 and 4.  It's not elegant...

You don't need to: they are installed with MicroStation.

Stick fonts are marked with the Bentley icon.  TrueType fonts have the ^T_T icon.

In addition to what's been said ..

a reminder that some clients have custom font rscs and you have to use them for those  clients drawings only so we use workspaces, workspace configs and  or project configs to choose resource files to be loaded in addition to the out of the box ones from Bentley.. a lot of DoTs use lots of custom fonts and custom linestyle
