Is there a trick to use lines for making solids or surfaces? Thickening, extruding or so?
I have a network of lines in a Space Frame structure. Now I want to render them and make the lines look like bamboo poles. I have managed to make a Custom Line style mimicking Bamboo with its typical varying width/diameter , but the volume does not show up in Illustration Display Style - because it’s nothing but a line…
In Rhino/Grasshopper you can give a diameter to a line, using the Pipe command.
In Microstation there are maybe hidden work-arounds for this?
Thanks for ideas…

Hi Ingemar
Try the steps I’ve outlined in the post below, it will give a constant diameter to a line. If you need varied values along the line eg midpoint then consider the revolve solid tool

Hi again,
Thanks for ideas. Yes, the revolve-line-to-create-solid is certainly a great tool to make very fine adjustments to the slightly tapered bamboo outer form. If you start making a simple pole, cut it to standard size and then compose the pyramid edges of a space frame, array copy and rotate the whole package to a roof pitch. For me it’s just a bit too late as I have already copied, rotated and manipulated a huge number of lines. Therefore, I’m looking for the magic tool to convert lines to solids in one go. Luckily Rhino 7 can read DGN and I will explore that track…I just wish that Bentley could offer the same.
Why not post some pictures of what you are trying to do e.g. the before state and an example of the finished result? There might be a quicker solution but its hard to tell from the description alone.
Does something like this work? This was done with the GenerativeComponents technology.

Cool! Looking forward to seeing that available once more for MicroStation.
