In PowerInRoads SS2 I had a dimensioning tool to place a dimension using 3 points.
First point was the start of the dimension
Second point was height of extension line
Third Point was end of dimension
The key-in reported by Power InRoads SS2 is "[DIMTOOL] dimension size perpendicular points". This was a standard tool available in Power InRoads SS2, but you had to go into <Workspace <Customize and add it to a Task toolbar (at least that's what I did to add it to the standard dimension tool task menu).
I am not able to find this tool in Microstation CONNECT and attempting to use the key-in states it is unknown. I've searched the key-in browser for all dimension related key-ins and the only one close is "dimcreate element perpendicular". This only allows 2 points, start & end. The dimension will be perpendicular to the element being dimensioned and switching the Alignment in the tool settings dialog has no affect on how the dimension is placed.
I used the 3 point method a lot in Power InRoads v8i.
Is this method available in Micorstation CONNECT Edition? I am currently on Release 15, but we should be switching to R16 before too long.
I wasn't clear on the definition of "customized". I was assuming at the time that the command may have been a vba or mdl created. I see something as customized if I take a key-in and add it to a task, toolbar, ribbon, etc. Really it is not important. I was more frustrated that I was not aware or at least conscience of what you were describing.
It's great that we all have different ways of doing things. Many of us learn from others who have their particular ways then build on that. I am always looking for different ways to do things and Microstation normally provides many methods. I always learn new things on the forums. I provide a lot of training materials for my firm to help users understand the various tools and provide more than one option because what works for one does not work for others. I also provide most of the interface customizations. I started in v8i when the task menu became available. I hated the need to change tasks so I created one that has most of what I used on a daily basis. I've done the same with the CONNECT ribbon. It is insane to keep changing ribbon tabs to access tools. Very inefficient.
I also use the built in icons for my custom tools. No sense in recreating the wheel if you don't need too.
In closing,this discussion is turning out to be pointless, even though there is a lot of good content, as the dimension methods we are talking about no longer exists in any form. We are moving everything to CONNECT & ORD, wit hthe exception of a few legacy projects, and will no longer use v8i.
