Convert dropped text to text in microstation

text is in linesi have too many drawing files that all has text in lines format or dropped text. How can i repair make it text again ? is there any way i have bentley Descartes v8i series 5 version. Please can someone help me with this

  • I tried making it pdf and attaching as raster but it doesn't work  properly.

I was looking like an option like as available in AutoCAD as we can select text and with option recognize option we can rebuilt text.

  • PDF "converted"? How, using what tools? If these were tools available in Descartes, then you should probably go to the Descartes forum and ask about those tools. There may be an option in whatever you used to "convert" your PDF to recognize text.

When you say further down that you tried to attach the PDF as a raster "but it doesn't work", How did it not work?

Telling us what AutoCAD has isn't always helpful. AutoCAD has tools MicroStation doesn't have. MicroStation has tools that AutoCAD doesn't have. If we know of an equivalent, we will try to tell you, but sometimes the answer is just "No, we can't do exactly that".

I would like to find the tool in AutoCAD that will Allow me to place a "floating" arc, tangent to a line, that ends at a known point. I have asked every AutoCAD Guru that I've known, and the answer is "No, AutoCAD can't do that". So I find another way to get my work done, with the tools that software package has.

Your question is about PDF files that contain lines that look like text.  You want to convert those 'words' to MicroStation text elements.

You need a tool that performs Optical Character Recognition (OCR).  Others have suggested that you use Descartes' OCR tool, which may be available in your version of Descartes.

    1. Attach the PDF as a raster reference
    2. Use Descartes' OCR tool to convert the words to MicroStation text

Post questions about Descartes to the correct Forum.

  • Descartes SS5 should work for converting the raster text to text elements. I've not had very much success attaching PDF's in Raster Manager and using the Descartes vectorization tools. You will need to print the PDF to a different format, I would suggest using a modified version of the MicroStation tiff driver.

Edit the default tiff.pltcfg file and up the resolution. The default is 300dpi, I would change it to something like 1000dpi

Print your file using the Monochrome color setting in the print dialog along with this driver.

I've done this multiple times when given pdf's to vectorize, and get much better results printing a higher resolution, monochrome tif image.

FYI... The OCR options for picking up text and cells have been removed from the CONNECT Edition of Descartes.

  • Hi,

I tried making it pdf and attaching as raster but it doesn't work  properly.

unfortunately, when you are not willing to share enough information, it's impossible to help you. As mentioned already, it's not clear what you tried and why it does not work for you.

I was looking like an option like as available in AutoCAD

No such information is in your original question. I agree with , when used right, OCR tool in Descartes produce acceptable result.

as we can select text and with option recognize option we can rebuilt text.

As mentioned in the discussion already, no such tool exist in MicroStation. An option is to export the drawing to another software (e.g. OCR), but my experience with handling text from external sources is not good. It's often hard to achieve required results because of fonts, size, justification, level etc. and manual check and modification of every text may be required ... and in such case, it's simpler (even for hundreds of drawings) to re-create texts manually in MicroStation.

    With regards,
