is there a way to get the view settings back on my windows box? i'm not able to step through corridor cross sections without it

I assume you're talking about the View Toolbox that is displayed within the View Window. There is a setting in the Workspace Preferences where you can turn this option on/off and in what section of the View Window it is displayed.
