Label Line ( Oct 2021 )

It seems to me that the <Label Line> tool no longer exists/works.  I found <Label Element> and <Dimension Element> but cannot get either one to label a line with it's info. ( Line length and angle in dd.dddd or dd mm ss.

Both my settings in Design File Settings and the angle format in the Dimension Styles tool box are set to DD^MM'SS"

I'm using MicroStation v10.14.2.1 ( I hope...that's what shows when I view the file properties )

This:  https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/MicroStation%20Help-v17/en/GUID-92EBADAF-1A75-B755-3F30-B0ACD6C4DD61.html  Is just not doing what it says it should.

  • the Dimenaion Element Tool Settings should have several icons on it, including the one for labeling a line. That's not the default one selected, but you should be able to select it and use the tool.

Can you show us a screenshot of that tools settings dialog?
If it's the correct tool, but that option isn't there, it's possible that something else is going on. Do you know if you are using a customized interface?

  • <Label Element> puts the element's end coordinates but not the length/angle.

    <Dimension Element> does the above.

No, I don't know if I'm using a customized interface.

  • That's not the Tool Settings dialog for the Dimension Element Tool. That's the Dimension Styles dialog, and that's not where to find this tool.

I have ORD, so the ribbon may not be identical, but this may help you to find it:

I have a "Drawing" Workflow that has an Annotate tab on the ribbon.
There is a Dimensioning frame on that tab, and "Dimension Element" is the first, big tool.
When I click that tool, the Tool Settings dialog changes, and the first option of the Dimension Element (which is Dimension Element) is chosen by default. I want the SECOND tool icon on the Tool Settings, which is "Label Line". I can click the little triangle/arrow at the right side to get to the options for that tool.

  • Got it!!   yay.  I should've known to look in the TOOL's settings and not in the overall tool's settings.

    Thank you.
