Hi,
99% of the time, when I paste text into the text editor, I want the active format, not the original format of the text (ie paste unformatted). Is there a way to make "paste unformatted" the default, and maybe have the option come up to paste formatted for the one or two cases a year that I want that?

Just a clarification for pasting this text, is it coming from an external source, like MS Word, or is it just text within the same design file? Also, if it is text from within the file, did you want any associated Text Style to be reallocated as the Active style? Maybe you could provide a workflow for what you are trying to perform.

Hi Andrew,
I have two situations. The normal situation is copying and pasting text from within Microstation. I normally do not want or need any formatting or text style to be pasted with the text. If I'm pasting into an existing element, I would like to keep the existing text style from that element (not the pasted text). If it is a new element, I would like to keep the active text style attributes (not the pasted text attributes.)
The other situation is that I sometimes copy/paste in text from our contact database. It really should be unformatted text, but it comes in with a color, and perhaps a font. Again, I don't want the format that comes with that text--all I want is the text itself.
I copy paste into notepad then copy back from notepad into the clipboard and use place text or edit text so the active text settings are from microstation and whats needed and then when I paste inside word processor it is what came from notepad and adopts the active text settings not those from notepad.. well has always worked for me in v8i and connect

Hi Lorys,
I've done that same thing. I also have a vba attached to a function key that will take the text from the Windows Clipboard and will paste the unformatted text into the text editor. And again, in Microstation CE, you can right click and "paste unformatted".
All of these things take a (small) extra step, rather than just hitting "paste" like many of the other programs. When this is what I want multiple-times every day, it would be nice just to set a preference (or configuration variable) and have Microstation do it as a default and not have to worry about using a work-around.

I'm thinking it might be better if you post this as a MicroStation Idea to gauge interest from other users.
