MicroStation - User Function Keys

MicroStation - User Function Keys  Why my assignments that I created for the function keys will not save after I go out of the program and back into the program? I did save the file but seems to always revert back to the default settings. I have to manually reload it every time I go back into MicroStation.  I see there is a question about this same subject but no real satisfying answer as far as I can see. Are there any updates on this since it was first asked?

Thanks for your help.

  • Your saved file should be pointed by MS_FKEYMNU.

    Hope this helps.

    This is a test

  • Your saved file should be pointed by MS_FKEYMNU

To enlarge on what  wrote, the name and location of your function key menu file is defined by MicroStation configuration variables.  There are two relevant variables...

    • MS_FKEYMNU: Defines the file name for the default function key menu
    • MS_DATA: Directory for data files created or used

See MicroStation help about User Configuration Variables.

  • Thank you to Hyung Kim and Jon Summers for your guidance.

I now have my function keys working properly as I have defined.

Some additional information if you and other users are interested:

    In my case,

Using MicroStation Connect version 16, from my self-named function key menu file that I created before when using MicroStation V8i. I copied that file into the folder of the directory C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Bentley\MicroStation\10.0.0\prefs\dwgdata

I then went into the settings\user settings\function keys and opened the dwgdata folder where my V8i created function key menu was placed, selected the file and chose open. The function key menu that I created was then displayed. I selected save and then started using the program as now the operations that I defined before were functioning correctly. When I exited the program and later went to use the program and the function keys, they would not function properly. When I checked the function key assignments, they were the default assignment settings from MicroStation, but I did notice that the name of the file was changed from funckey.mnu to personal.”what I named the file”.mnu. This particular file was not in the dwgdata folder, rather it was created by the program in the C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Bentley\MicroStation\10.0.0\prefs folder.

I then decided to manually change this file that is called Personal.”name”.mnu as to what I had for the one I created in V8i. I changed this file to my liking, saved it and tried the functions which worked as expected.

When I exited the program and later went to use the program the function keys worked properly as I had defined them. I believe this item has been solved.
