I have been dimensioning just to the left or right of the point I want to just so I can place the dimension on the correct point.
Is there a way to just have the dimension display at the point I am measuring? It is maddening to always have to have a 0.000000001' offset just to have it display. It would be great to just have it auto place after I click both points instead of having to screw around with its location.
Note that I have to measure clearance, so I cannot use "Dimension Element". I do not want to have to incorporate an extra step of drawing lines on a non plotting level.

In the Dimension tool settings dialog there is a field for Dim Offset. Check tha box and have the value set to zero. The dimension will be placed at the exact location where you data point

Thats it! Thank you. This was driving me crazy
Glad it solved the issue. It is annoying that you need to enable that setting in order to place the dimension at the data points.
