is there a way to get the fullpath/filename in the Title Bar to be right-justified? When the path is very long, the filename doesn''t fit (unless I go full-screen on a 4K monitor). I'd much rather have the left side (the path root) clipped out (99% of my work starts from the same path root. My files change constantly). I'd much rather see ".../rampC.dgn" than an everpresent "pw:\\projectwise...." Thanks
Hi Jeff,
How many characters are visible on your screen when not using a 4k monitor
not enough
Can you provide an actual number? I have a solution but it’s somewhat dependant on the number of visible characters on your screen.
i'm looking at a path and file now that's around 240 characters. At full screen 4K, I can see it all. I think there is a 256-char cap somewhere in the code.
Ok, perhaps I should ask a different question that might be more relevant. How many characters would you like to be visible when the full path is as long as you describe? Any full-paths less than the threshold you provide will of course display the entire thing, larger than that would be clipped.
Also, are you familiar with VBA, and do you have any macro’s operating when you open a file?
I am familiar, but other than toggling an eventual "PATHFILE_RIGHT_JUSTIFY=1", I won't be implementing anything. Other fish to fry. But, thanks. I would like to start doing some macros and SDK, but it won't be for this and it won't be soon.
Sounds like you are no longer interested but for what its worth, your original request is achievable.
In absence of any massive full-paths on my system, I created a simple test case; rather than going to a website to generate random string of text which would not be understood by anyone, I opened up Notepad++ and copy/pasted the names of NFL team names until it reach around the 240 character count. I would then take that string of text and rename a DGN file. Below is what Windows would accept (no partials, only full names):
D:\Arizona+Cardinals_Atlanta+Falcons_Baltimore+Ravens_Buffalo+Bills_Carolina+Panthers_Chicago+Bears_Cincinnati+Bengals_Cleveland+Browns_Dallas+Cowboys_Denver+Broncos_Detroit+Lions_Green+Bay+Packers_Houston+Texans.dgn
That is 216 chars long and sufficient for my needs.
When I open that file in V8i on my system, it displays the entire thing (on my 27" screens with a resolution of 1920x1080) as well as the Model Type info and Application Name (which gets clipped):However, I can limit this to what ever length I want to see, and ensure any path clipping takes place from the left (I also choose not to show the Model Type and Application name):
200 chars:
150 chars:
It's not a matter of interest; I'd love to be able to start writing and implementing macros. It's a matter of what I need to be focusing on. As a trainer I always asked companies "Who is your VBA programmer? You don't have one? Get one. They can automate great things."
There is of course nothing stopping you from learning whenever you like, but there was no expectation from anyone, on you being able to write it. When you wrote "I won't be implementing anything", it read to me that you no longer had any interest pursuing your original query.
If you wanted the functionality, it could have be given without cost along with instructions how to get it work. That's what the Communities are here for, for users to help other users solve problems or to assist with something that they are trying to achieve.
The Macro could have even be enhanced further so that your previously mentioned variable 'DO_WHAT_JEFF_WANTS' could actually be used, to either turn on or off the Titlebar modification, or, instead of using 1 or 0, the number could be your character visibility threshold.
