annotation scale?

does anybody know if i can change the annotation scale for visual purposes? I am a civil 3d user, "being trained" (training myself) in microstation. dude at work says there is no way to change the annotation scale to make it easier to see my stuff while im moving around in the model. i am having to zoom way in just to be able to make out what the point number is, etc, because everything is so large, its crowding my view. im attaching a screen shot because i know being new at this, im sure that im not explaining well. thanks in advance!

  • Are cells &/or annotation placed with Annotation Scale enabled? If so, you should be able to reference the file into your file and use whatever annotation scale you need. This will not affect the original file. If those items are not placed with annotation scale enabled then, No annotation scale will not help

  • Assuming you are using v8i (SS10).

Open your Models dialog > select your model > right click and pick "Properties".

From the Model Properties dialog that pops open > change the scale to a larger scale > click OK.

  • Hi Laryn,

at first, please read and follow the best practices. To tag the post "MicroStation" is not enough, because there are several generations and many different versions used, so even when an answer can be similar, where to find or set something can be completely different, depending on version.

I do not know how you insert the picture, but it is useless, because very low resolution. Use Insert > Insert image/video/file tool, when you want to attach picture or file.

As  and  wrote, it depends, whether elements (text, cell..) are placed as annotations, or not.

    • When they are "plain elements", you must use zoom, because their size is fixed.
    • When they are "annotations", they are rescaled automatically depending on set scale.

The scale, as Karl wrote, can be set e.g. in model properties, but there is also dialog available, that can be opened using key-in "dialog drawingscale open" (works both in V8i and CE).

Sounds a bit like a lack of knowledge how to use MicroStation efficiently. To use multiple views (e.g for overview and detail(s)) often helps.

  • As Jan mentioned using multiple Views may help in this regard, rather than adjust and Annotation Scale.

    For example

in View 1 Display the whole Design (or large area of interest) and use the Window Area tools Tool Settings to apply the output to View 2.

  • Wow, does that take me back. Pre-Bentley, IGDS set-up was typically a small screen (we called it a slave) and a larger screen to do the work. Slave would have the design fit and show a square where your big screen was.

There are various solutions to the issue posted. Mess around, see which is easiest for you.
