we are using Microstation V8i and we just got a new dell laptop and installed micrstation on it.
when you first open a drawing file it looks fine but if I click on a line on any spot on any drawing and then click on a second line small grey garbage characters
appear between the 2 linesif you click on opposite sides of the drawing the characters fill in the witdth of the line and as you click on more lines the whole screen is eventually fills with these garbage characters.
and as i move my cursor along any of the lines the garbage characters kind of move an jump around. has anyone seen anything like this?
I have tried updating the windows 10 video drivers and i have been looking for display settings in microstation that might make a difference but so far no luck.
You might try an older video driver.

There is a MicroStation variable you can try setting in a configuration file on that laptop
QV_D3DVERSION = 9
This has worked for me on a number of computers when there were display issues in MicroStation V8i SELECTseries versions, and no amount of driver updates/rollbacks worked.

can you tell me where that configuration file is?
If you open Workspace > Configuration from the top menu bar you can add the variable definition there. It will put it in your .ucf file.
The default location is under C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace\Users\
Select Workspace > About Workspace from the top menu bar it will tell you the location of the .ucf file.
Not knowing what your configuration looks like I can't tell you for sure where that file resides.
That's probably the easiest thing to do to verify it will work for you. If you use multiple .ucf's, or your .ucf's are stored on a network drive, then you might have to come up with a better way to include that variable.
Thank you Rod i will try that tomorrow.
