What’s a sidebar menu? Do you have any images of them?

How do we explain to youngsters like you just how good things were in the old days? Dial phones, clockwork clocks, coal fires, vinyl records, steam trains, the Sony Walkman and 3'x5' digitizing tables! I could go on.
Before mice were invented, CAD systems were steam-powered and had a digitizing tablet. The first UI was a special zone on the tablet reserved for a menu. If you moved the puck off the drawing zone onto the menu zone then you could pick a command from an on-board menu.
As things progressed and graphics became more capable, those tablet menus moved to the screen, and you picked a menu using the mouse or other device. The sidebar menu was one of the first manifestations of an on-screen menu. It was drawn using DGN graphics and replicated what you could see on the digitizing tablet. Unlike today's menus, it was a permanent part of the display until technologies like today's began to arrive.
Draftsmen being conservative creatures, sidebar menus persisted for many years. They provide an interface analogous to the digitizing tablet menu.

A Text file menu that you can create and combine commands and lots of other time savers.
Please be part of Connect if it is not.
Yes they do. I pulled up a client's old V7 sidebar menu in CONNECT.
However, I agree with Jon Summers. I would upgrade these to a newer technology.

That is good news. Can the new technology allow me to create a new relevant menu of just the commands (combined) in under 10 minutes?
I tried making the menus in V8I and it became time consuming and difficult. Sidebars have put me at the front of drafting in the companies I worked for for many years. Others evening paying me to make them for them. (they were just lazy, its too easy)
