Hi
My question is about how Bentley software results is planned to be viewed by project members for free. Autodesk has Navis that comes with one version that is free viewer for all project members, then there is simulate and manage where you can produce information that you want to be shared.
How is it in Bentley software family? I know that there is some kind similar as Navis in "Bentley world " Navigator CONNECT Edition. Is this similar as the Autodesk Navis? If it is is there also an free viewer for navigator as there is in Autodesk Navis?
Every new big project that is started has an requirement that the information has to be able to be read/view by all project members without owning the full license of the programs used to design the result with free viewer.
Do Bentley have this kind of solutions?
Best regards
Tom
Hi Tom,
To add to what Tuan already posted, Bentley View is available as a free CAD viewer:https://www.bentley.com/en/products/product-line/modeling-and-visualization-software/bentley-view
Here are some related Announcements/Blogs we would recommend to learn more about the product:https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/f/microstation-announcements-forum/174637/bentley-view-connect-edition
https://communities.bentley.com/other/old_site_member_blogs/peer_blogs/b/marc_thomass_blog/posts/bentley-view-connect-edition
The most commercially available version of Bentley View CONNECT Edition is Update 16 version 10.16.02.22
Thanks for all your efforts, but Bentley View is not the same as the Navis freedom, Bentley View is similar to any free dwg free reader out there. What I mean with free model viewer is that you can summarize 3d projects in one viewer. not one file at the time as in bentley viewer.

Tom said:You don´t need any special cad knowledge to inspect the information and a lot of project members can download Naviswork freedom for free to see and control the bundled design information in 3d.
The ease of use is key.
BIM360 (by ADSK) and ProjectWise365 (by BSY) look pretty much the same as a CloudService. (different file fomats though)
As for free viewers as installed Software there is NavisFreedom vs Bentley View. (Freedom is - as I said above - much easier to use)
For design review - not just plain viewing - you have to pay and administer (online and offline).
From Bentley you get Bentley Navigator CE (on Appstores for Windows, iOS and Android) You need to generate imodels to be used there. I guess a license for Bentley Navigator CE can be purchased for around 300€ pP/yr (not straightforward to come by - need to Check with Bentley/Virtuosity as the price is not featured there)
For Navisworks you need the MANAGE suite to do design review.Maybe somebody can chime in with insight.
Installed software seems to become more and more LEGACY(!?) - while online offers are not yet full replacement It appears the online versions are featured more and more while the installed offers are phased out prematurely.
Hi Barry
We have requirements that all information must be delivered in the correct coordinate and height system, regardless of which program has been used to design for the project. We have also requirements that the delivery format for designs are dwg, dgn, IFC and/or LandXML so there is no problem to combine information regarding geospatial information.
We don´t have any requirements in what program the information is used to design the information so therefor we have the delivery format and geospatial requirements. We don´t use PW to deliver the information either, we have an different system to manage all documentation in the project.
Hi Ian
Thank you for the information but i have to test the NWD exporter to DGN that it is retaining the geospatial information when exported to DGN. Autocad (Civil3D) have also now from ver 2021 functions to attach NWD file/s as XREF, BUT the geospatial information is lost so everything is referenced (Xrefed) in zero zero coordinate system.

Hi Jon
There is a lot of cloud software/processing discussions regarding iTwin/imodel etc. We have huge security issues directly when cloud storage or processing are involved. Every "European" country has their own "high security" rules so to not be able to get the information from the cloud owner as an open information where the cloud server is located is not a good thing. We can not in advance see if the cloud solution is something we can plan to use or not regarding to the information security issue.
We also have 2d plan drawings delivered, a lot of them, but we also have an 3d information of the 2d plan information in our merged nwd file that shows everything in 3d BUT the property of each object that is decided shall be delivered as 2d plan pdf file has an information to look in XX pdf file to get the proper information.
We have used Bluebeam UK: Engineer & Construction Software | AEC Software more and more when it comes to pdf delivery format.
