I would like to set Microstation V8i (SELECTseries 3) as my default for dgn files. It currently defaults to Microstation V8 2004, which isn't supported by my company any longer. I can right click on a dgn file and choose 'open with', and I am given options of Microstation V8 or Microstation CONNECT Edition, No V8i SELECTSeries. I picked Choose Another App, More Apps, then Look for another app on This PC. I search to C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicrosStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation and choose ustation.exe, which is the link that opens V8i SELECTseries on my machine. However, when I do this, the file still opens in 2004 V8, not V8i. Is there a way to set ustation.exe to open in SELECTseries instead of V8 2004?

This article may help. You will probably have to ask your IT department to act on your behalf.

On the Open With dialog, click More Apps and scroll to the bottom and press 'Look for another app on this PC' and then location your Ustation.exe for SS3. You might also want to tick the 'Always use this app to open .dgn files' if it doesn't give you that option to do so after selecting the .exe file.
Thank you for your response. That is what I have tried, and I select the ustation.exe for SS3, and tick the 'Always use this app' box, but then the dgn still tries to open in V8 2004.
If you are unable to do so yourself, I would ask your IT dept to remove V8 2004, then run a repair on the SS3 installation via the control panel (which IIRC, should hopefully reassociate the dgn filetype to the SS3 Ustation.exe)
I personally don't think it matters which version is associated to the dgn file type. By default, when you open a dgn file via explorer, it opens a vanilla instance. I use a shortcut which loads my workspace, and then open files via the MicroStation Manager.
BTW, is there any reason why you are not using MicroStation V8i SS10? Its the only version which uses CONNECTION Client for licensing. Was it not the case that Bentley were going to start charging some sort of license fee for those not using the CONNECTION Client? It was the only reason I went from SS4 to SS10.
It is also worth noting that MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3) is no longer supported by Bentley and you should be considering upgrading to MicroStation CONNECT Edition.

There have been some great suggestions here for you to reassign associations to this version. The following Wiki article might also be of assistance with making these associations.
