FILLING Multiple Shapes at once

Question

Hi All. 
 I have received a file with thousands of closed shapes. I need to change their fill types as I need their fill to have a colour. Currently they are all not filled. Any ideas of how to do this in bulk instead of clicking on one at a time please?

 Then they are not shapes. They may look like shapes, but they are a set of lines where the first and last coordinates are identical. 
 
 Here's a freeware macro that converts line-strings that appear to be shapes to shape elements...

Barry's method is awesome.. but if you need different colours for different objects then use the power selector to select by colour or by level then apply Barry's technique... really cool solution Barry...

I have an alternate method that may work (or may not) depending on the file you're working with. 
 I had hundreds of open lines that depicted rebar and i was able to isolate the rebar with display set, draw a temporary box, select everything and create a grouped hole with interior shapes. I was then able to drop the hole and was left with the right number of complex shapes.
