Hello,
I wonder how i can dynamically (according to my needs and purposes) change the styles of an element subjected to view/section callout (mainly in drawing space).
The only way i have found is to assign Element template to an object but this is pretty static and limited way of doing it.
I want to have multiple Element templates assigned to elements activated globally according to certain rules.
Lets say --> to all elements on layers containing "*concrete*" apply element template called "XYZ".
Only place where rules are applicable is Display rules within Display styles but its not the same thing as controlling hatches and edges (cut, visible, hidden) per element basis. Or is it?
How should Element templates be used in conjunction with Display styles and rules?
Thanks
just to clarify. Are you wanting to control what your section cuts look like ?
If so, once the section is created, it will have a saved view and clip volume settings. The clip volume settings can be controlled by the display styles.
So you would create display styles with your required settings and rules and then apply that display style to the needed clip (forward, back, cut)

is it usable also for drawings generated from section/elevation/plan callouts? This looks like a thing for 3d model space temporary preview of your model with clipping volume on.
when you create the callout - it creates the view (section, etc...) and in that view you have the ability to turn on or off those volume settings. You also have the ability to choose what display style is used for each clip volume (forward, back, cut)
and what is the association to drawings? i get a view but i want it to be a drawing in the list of models, not a saved view.
When creating a section program asks if i want to create a drawing and sheet as well. I dont get how saved views are related to drawings. Because only in the views i can set display style unlike in drawing of the same section.
i have clipping volume with display rule active. fine. now how do i get a drawing out of this with the same display rules?
as you stated "When creating a section program asks if i want to create a drawing and sheet as well."
Take that step - have it create the drawing.
but inside drawing there is no option to choose from display styles anymore (for section, backward and forward)
inside the created file it should have the saved view. With that saved view active in a view, the view attributes (screenshot I posted) should have these options.
it is so super complicated and convoluted in microstation (for me). there are clipping volumes, named boundaries, named views, section callouts.... when i create a section there is no way to define depth of view and no mean to define display styles like in case of clipping volume. clipping volume behaves ok but i cant get a drawing out of it. i cant figure it out ....
everything that user needs is to create a "2d view/section" from the 3d model. one icon and one dialog window should be enough :D
FWIW you do not need to use the Section Callout tools or create a drawing at all. You can, if that's your preference, but I've always kept it simple and chosen not to use them. I simply create Clip Volumes, apply my preset Cut and Forward display styles, create an ACS (where the X axis is parallel with the cut plane, and finally a Saved View of the View. I can then attach that Saved view onto ANY drawing whatsoever, couldn't be simpler.
The difference from the callout method is I don't get the annoying (to me ) little icons, nor any kind of link between the section and the drawing, but so what? I simply have not and never will, need them.
