I am no longer able to edit Tag elements created in U16 in either CE or v8i versions.
Tag has character type but any input results in empty tag. Same happens accessing Tags using VBA it only supports integer type. What is happening?

The difference between v8i and CE is that in v8i tag instances do no reflect the change so this mistake is not possible as I did in CONNECT.
Hi Oto,I agree that this is probably a regression bug from v8i to some degree. I performed testing in the following MicroStation versions:MS v8i SS10 08.11.09.931 MSCE U16 10.16.03.11
I will take the following actions in regards to your issue:
1. I will file a regression bug for the tag properties that get changed during this workflow. In MicroStation v8i, if you changed the type of an existing tag that has already been attached to an element (for example integer-->character), the tag type would not change within the Properties menu of the tag element (Contents>tag type). After this change, any subsequent changes to the actual value of the tag would cause it to disappear from the view (I believe this was also a bug, but strictly in v8i that has since been resolved in CE). In MicroStation CE, if you performed the same workflow, the tag type will change within the Properties menu (Contents>tag type). Also, any edits to the value of the tag will only allow changes based on the parameters defined by the initial tag type. For instance, if the tag was initially an integer, then only integers would be allowed for input, even if the tag type was changed to a character.
Please see attached photo for clarity on the location of these properties.
2. I will file an enhancement request with our development team to allow the ability to edit existing tag types that are already attached to elements.I think this would alleviate your issues if implemented in updates. Please keep in mind that tags are a deprecated feature in CE.Regards,Jayson P.

It is not deprecated it is just another abandoned feature same as WMS/WMTS. It was never fully implemented.
