How to draw the Xline like AutoCAD in MicroStation

HI everyone,

I'm using MicroStation CONNECT Edition,

and I want to draw an line as same as Xline of AutoCAD in MicroStation,

Could you please guide how to do it?

My purpose that is drawing an long line by two points in order to find the intersecting point with other line.

Thank you so much.

  • Do you have the tentative assigned to your mouse? I have it set to my mouse wheel button. If not you need to set it in your Button Assignments. To use, I simply press the button once over each line after pressing I or the intersection snap button

  • Hi Barry Lothian,

Thank you so much for your help, following your recommendation, I use tentative by mouse and I can do 5 steps above to determine intersection.

One more question, whether MicroStation has the line same Xline of AutoCad, I mean the line with no limited length as same as xline of AutoCad.

  • No, there is no such feature, even if there were I wouldn’t have any need to use it. I use similar features in GIMP and Inkscape (they call them guides) but that’s only because they don’t have the same functionality as what the AccuDraw provides.

What I would recommend is practice the AccuDraw, learn its key-ins and snap-modes. Eventually you will find there is so much more that you can do without needing construction lines (I personally don’t use the construction class at all). When we are/were all novices, drawing geometry to aid a transform or whatever is what we all did, but when you master the AccuDraw, such temporary geometry is required less and less.

  • No problem Parker.

Here is a slightly advanced alternative that demonstrates a different use of the AccuDraw to get the same intersection point, but without Intersection Snap:

    1. Start Place Line
    2. Make sure the AccuDraw is highlighted
    3. Tentative Snap to ANYWHERE on the line (I chose the mid-point)
    4. Press RE
    5. Move the cursor over the line until it rotates parallel with the line
    6. Left-Click to accept AccuDraw rotation
    7. Press N to make Nearest snap active for 1 Data-point
    8. Move the cursor towards the intersection point
    9. Press Enter to lock the Axis
    10. Tentative Snap to ANYWHERE on the second line
    11. Left-click to accept intersection point.
